The City Centre or more commonly known to local residents as ‘downtown’ is the central hub of dining, entertainment, recreation and activity. Residents and visitors can enjoy the many restaurants and fine dining experiences that can be found along the main streets while being walking distance from the Sagebrush Art Theatre and Sandman Centre; home to the Kamloops Blazers hockey team. Riverside Park is located along the river bank of the South Thompson River offering a children’s playground, outdoor amphitheater, water park, boat launch and designated swimming area.
The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is the city’s largest employer. RIH is the region’s acute care and health facility and is one of two tertiary referral hospitals in the Southern Interior with 239 acute beds and an additional 20 more beds upon completion of the expansion in 2016 . Further expansion is planned with a new care tower beginning construction in 2019.

During Kamloops’ evolution in the 19th century, the West End was the main site of residential settlement in the growing town. The name of Nicola Wagon Road in the neighbourhood bears witness to the fact that the West End was the first concentration of habitation in what would become one of British Columbia’s most spread-out cities.
The West End was home to many of Kamloops’ most prominent early citizens, as demonstrated by the size and grandeur of many of the homes. While a number of more modern houses have encroached upon the neighbourhood’s elegant atmosphere, wood paneled and stucco homes remain the norm.
