Rayleigh

rayleigh-kamloops rayleigh

Rayleigh is a small community situated off of the Yellowhead Highway, approximately 15 minutes north of the city centre. Rayleigh is located directly across the North Thomspon river from Westsyde. Rayleigh is a very private, quiet, family oriented neighbourhood with large, flat lots; inground pools are popular in the area. Approximately 2,040 residents live in the area (2011 Census) There are numerous riverfront properties with access to the beach of the Thompson River, for those who do not have backyard access there is boat access up during the spring and summer time just up the road.

Rayleigh is on a private water system,  Rayleigh Water Works and all homes are on a community or private septic systems.

Just north of Rayleigh, the City of Kamloops constructed a recreational facility called ‘Tournament Capital Ranch’. The park is open seven days a week between 5am and 11pm and offers miles of river views, walking and tournament opportunities. It is one of Western Canada’s largest stand alone slo-pitch facilities and has 2 full-size rugby fields.

SCHOOLS

Primary children attend Rayleigh Elementary which is the only school in this area. Students in Gr 7-9 attend Brock Middle School which shares a field with Kay Bingham.  Secondary students attend  Norkam Secondary School which offers a Trades and Technology program thanks to their partnership with Thompson Rivers University.  Bus transportation is available for students in Rayleigh to attend the middle and high school. On the North Side of Kamloops there is also multiple private and schools of choice (OLPH, Bert Edwards School of Technology, Kamloops Christian School and École Collines-D’Or).  Please see the SD73 catchment map for more information.

HISTORY

In 1973, the municipality of Rayleigh was added to the city of Kamloops. The municipality was named after Rayleigh Mount who operated a post office in the community.
